ARTHUR'S STORY

The circumstances surrounding Arthur's birth are kept a close secret, even from Arthur himself. When his mother, the Lady Igraine was unable to have a child. Arthur's father, Uther, asked a powerful sorceress Nimueh to help them conceive one. She agreed to do so, but did not inform Uther of the consequences that would come of creating a child through magic [Perhaps she did not know herself.] Igraine died shortly after Arthur's birth-- thus marking the beginning of the Great Purge. As the rules of the Old Religion stated, "For a life created, a life must be taken". Thus, Arthur was raised as an only child, until his father took in the orphaned daughter of his friend Gorlois, the Lady Morgana.

Arthur's education was centered around combat and the knightly arts. He himself claimed to have been "trained to kill since birth." Because of this emphasis, he is the best knight in Camelot, and oversees the training and maintenance of the other knights in the kingdom. He has proven once, and once again that he is not a coward. He accepts every challenge and picks up every gauntlet. His skills make him rather arrogant at times, covering the fact that he has a VERY good heart and cares deeply for his family, friends and future subjects.

ARTHUR'S RELATIONSHIPS

	Name: Merlin
	Occupation: Arthur's servant
	Relationship: Merlin is Arthur's manservant. Despite this master/servant relationship, the two young men have become very close. Arthur has even proven that he is willing to die for Merlin, and vice versa.

	Name: Gaius
	Occupation: Court physician
	Relationship: Gaius is the Court Physician, and Arthur has a great trust and respect for him and considers Gaius as one of his loyal and trustworthy friends.

	Name: Gwen
	Occupation: Queen of Camelot
	Relationship: Gwen was Morgana's maidservant, and for a long time went beneath Arthur's notice. When Arthur decided to disguise himself as an ordinary citizen in order to take part in a tournament, he spent several days in close quarters with Gwen and grew close to her, even sharing a kiss with her. Arthur pulled away from her soon after, but he continued to care about her, and even disobeyed Uther and sought to rescue Gwen when she was kidnapped (though he pretended he had only done so at Morgana's urging.) Their relationship continued to develop in secret, until season 3's "Queen of Hearts", when their relationship was revealed and nearly led to Gwen's execution. Merlin managed to convince Uther that Arthur's love for Gwen was the result of magic, and they agree to keep their relationship a secret until Arthur becomes king. However at the very end of series 3 they reveal their feelings for eachother. In series 4, she is crowned Queen of Camelot .

	Name: Morgana
	Occupation: Witch
	Relationship: Morgana is Arthur's paternal half sister. They were raised together in Uthur's household, and shared a teasing, generally loving relationship. Morgana would often act as Arthur's moral compass, convincing him to ignore Uther's unfair laws and do what he thought was right. When she disappeared with Morgause at the end of season 2, Arthur spent months tirelessly searching for her, and upon her return, remained ignorant of her evil intentions and still considered her a trusted friend. It was only in the season 3 finale, when Morgana overthrew Uther and took Camelot for herself, did Arthur learn the truth about her. Series 4 continues Arthur and Morgana's fight for the throne, although Arthur is now King of Camelot.

	Name: Uther Pendragon
	Occupation: Deceased King of Camelot
	Relationship: Arthur is Uther's son, and although they had a very difficult relationship, they still cared for and respected one another deeply. Arthur longed desperately for his father's approval, but never hesitated to disobey him if he felt the cause was just. In "Excalibur" Uther showed that Arthur means more to him than "all of Camelot and certainly more than my own life." Uther finally laid down his life for Arthur, in series 4, when he was mortally wounded saving his son from an assassin.

	Name: The Great Dragon
	Occupation: Roaming the forests
	Relationship: In season one it is not known if Arthur is aware of the Great Dragon's imprisonment, but the magical creature often conspires to put Arthur on the throne in fulfillment of his and Merlin's destiny. They meet in the season 2 finale, when the newly freed dragon makes a play to destroy Camelot in retribution for his long imprisonment. The Great Dragon knocks out Arthur in Season 2's finale. Merlin then speaks to the dragon in the ancient dragon-tongue and commands it to stop attacking Camelot. The dragon flies away, and Arthur is lead to believe that he has killed it.
