| Episode 204: Lancelot and Guinevere Recap by Black_Unicorn
Lancelot and Guinevere opens with Arthur, Uther, and Merlin seeing off Morgana, Gwen, and their guards. Morgana is going on a pilgrimage to her father's grave. Gwen looks back at Arthur and he remains looking at her for awhile.
As Morgana's party is traveling through the forest, Morgana asks Gwen why she seems so secretive these days. Gwen avoids the question and then suddenly men attack them. All the guards are killed and Morgana is dragged off her horse. She and Gwen try to escape but they are stopped by a brigand who says he is to capture the Lady Morgana alive.
Morgana and Gwen are brought to the brigands camp. Morgana forms a plan to escape, by asking the leader if she may bathe. The leader laughing agree, asking who wants to help him guard Morgana.
Back in Camelot, Arthur reports there is still no sign of Morgana. Uther orders him to send out a search party at once.
Meanwhile, in the forest by a lake, Morgana is taking off her clothes for her bath. She keeps the leader of the brigands talking. Gwen suddenly grabs the leader's sword and throws it toward Morgana. Then Morgana, clad only in her shift, and Gwen make a run for it. Gwen stumbles and hurts her ankle and has to stop. She insists that Morgana go on, there's no sense in both of them being caught. Morgana hands Gwen the swords then continues running.
Arthur, Merlin, and some other knights have found the slain guard. Merlin finds a ransom note attached to an arrow. Arthur spots some tracks and the party follows him. Arthur hears something in the forest. Armed with a crossbow he finds himself pointing it at Morgana. Almost instantaneously he asks "Where's Gwen?"
At the kidnappers camp, the brigand leader is furious to find that his men have brought him only a servant girl. Then he gets and idea and tells Gwen to pose as the Lady Morgana as Hengist has never seen her and will not know the difference.
Uther is overjoyed to find Morgana safe. But he does not think it is worth it to save Gwen. Morgan says, "Gwen is more than my servant she is my friend." She pleads to Arthur but when he says no she storms out of the room.
Gwen is brought before Hengist and he he says she is as beautiful as they claim. Gwen refuses hospitality of any kind and is thrown into the dungeon.
In Arthur's room Morgana is yelling at Arthur for not going to save Gwen. Arthur asks her stop and see that he is packing.
Gaius sees Merlin leaving. Merlin tells Giaus not to try and stop him. Giaus just tells Merlin to make sure he comes back safe.
Arthur and Merlin must sneak out of the castle. Arthur tells Merlin to distract the guards while he gets the horses. "How am I supposed to do that?" asks Merlin. "I don't know," replies Arthur. Merlin makes all the barrels roll mysteriously as his distraction.
Back at Hengist's castle Gwen is dining with him and his men. There is a cage in the center of the room for fights. A huge bare-chested man come out and Gwen is shocked to see is opponent is none other than Lancelot. He beats the the huge man quickly and leaves the cage. The bare-chested man is fed to the Wildren which come out of a tunnel in the side wall. Hengist comments how the Lady Morgana seems impressed by the new hero. Lancelot meets Gwen's eyes, surprised.
In the forest Merlin falls off his horse, half asleep. Arthur pours cold water on him, annoyed. "Gwen's life is at stake we haven't a moment to lose." They ride on.
Lancelot visits Gwen at her cell. He asks her why Hengist thinks she is Morgana. Gwen tells him why and says she doesn't have much time. Lancelot tells her that he often thought of her and he will get her out.
Merlin is woken up by Arthur pouring water on his head again. Merlin comments about how he has never seen Arthur like this about anyone before. Arthur doesn't answer he just swings onto his horse.
Hengist visits Gwen in her cell, he is growing suspicious since Uther has not yet payed the ransom. He tells Gwen that if he does not get an answer by tomorrow at dawn, "this stinking cell will be the last place she ever sees."
Arthur is looking at his map and decides that they must take a shortcut through Wildren infested tunnels. He describes the Wildren as "giant baby rats." Since they hunt by scent alone he decides that smearing berries on themselves would be a good idea. As they journye in the tunnels the Wildren appear. Quietly they hide and one of the Wildren starts to lick Merlin. It soon leaves and they continue.
Gwen tells Lancelot that Hengist is growing suspicious. Lancelot gallently tells her that he will not let her die and will be there for her before nightfall.
Arthur and Merlin wash off the berries at a river. Arthur comments casually how the berries worked so well. Merlin, shocked, exclaims "What's that Wildren eating oh it's only Merlin!" He goes on to say that love makes people do strange things. Arthur finally admits his feelings for Gwen and how they can never be. He tells Merlin if he tells anyone, he will make Merlin's life "A living hell." Merlin brightly says, "Don't you do that already?"
Hengist again questions Gwen about why Uther isn't sending the money. He corners her in the cage. Frightened she brings her hands up and Hengist grabs them. He tells the guards to throw her back in the cell. After she is gone he questions why the Lady Morgana has the rough hands of a serving girl.
It is now nightfall and true to his word Lancelot is helping Gwen escape. He positioned himself above her guards, looking at them through a grate. He takes out a sleeping potion and uses some string to drip it down into the guards stew. Soon, they are knocked out.
Hengist questions the brigands' leader. He tells Hengist that Gwen is not Morgana but her maid. Hengist has the tunnel opened and the brigands' leader is eaten by the Wildren.
Meanwhile, Lancelot has stolen the guards' keys and freed Gwen. As they are running to safety, Hengist storms into the dungeon only to find that Gwen has escaped. He says, "Bring her to me alive!" Lancelot shows Gwen a tunnel that leads to freedom. "What about you?" asks Gwen. "I would die for you one hundred times," replies Lancelot. He then turns to face the oncoming guards.
Arthur and Merlin are looking for a way. Arthur says they should scale the castle wall.
Lancelot is thrown back into the Wildren's cage. Hengist cruelly tease him, asking him what Gwen meant to him. Then he has the guards bring out Gwen. They will both die by the Wildren.
Arthur and Merlin are scaling the wall. Merlin notes how hard it is. Finally, they are inside the castle. Again, Merlin must distract the guards. "How am I supposed to do that?" Arthur pushes him inside the room. The guards rise, wary. Merlin stumbles along, telling them how he is lost and is looking for directions. He then tells them they should he worried about Arthur not him. Arthur knocks the guards out.
Back in the cage, Gwen tells Lancelot that she is sorry. He replies that she has reminded him who he is and now he can die with faith in his heart. The Wildren is released. Arthur and Merlin enter the room in the guards' uniforms. Seeing Gwen in danger, Arthur immediately jumps into the cage, cuts the prisoners' bonds and throws Lancelot a sword. Arthur and Lancelot battle the Wildren. Angry, Hengist takes a crossbow to kill them. Merlin casts a spell, causing the chandelier to fall on him. Arthur tells Merlin to hurry up into the cage. They have to escape through the tunnel, it's their only chance. They all run into the tunnel, Hengist after them. Merlin casts another spell, causing the gate to close. Hengist is eaten. "Still up to your old tricks Merlin?" says Lancelot. They then run to the end of the tunnel. As Arthur breaks open the gate he notices Gwen and Lancelot holding hands. He turns away. As they are leaving, Lancelot thanks Arthur for saving them.
Merlin, Arthur, Lancelot, and Gwen are sitting around their camp fire. Lancelot says he is surprised that the rescue party consisted only of Arthur and Merlin. Arthur tells him Uther would not risk his men for the lives of a servant girl and he only came because Morgana begged him. Everyone leaves, uncomfortable and Merlin is left sitting by himself.
Merlin goes to sit by Lancelot. He asks him if Arthur really came because of Morgana and if he has feelings for her. Merlin doesn't answer. Lancelot says he will not come between them. He tells Merlin to tell Gwen "That she has changed me forever but some things can never be." Gwen wakes up and Merlin tells her that he has gone and his message. Gwen turns away and starts crying. Arthur wakes to see Gwen. He also turns away and says they better get moving. Soon they are in sight of Camelot.
Arthur approaches Morgana, who is looking out a window in the castle. "I have someone here to see you," he says. Gwen and Morgana embrace each other for a long time. Arthur's eyes linger on Gwen then he walks away.
The final scene is Merlin and Arthur walking in the courtyard. "Look on the bright side, you still have me," says Merlin cheerfully. "Is that supposed to cheer me up?" asks Arthur. "I thought it might," comes the reply. "You really are a complete idiot aren't you Merlin?"
