...none of that. He is neither completely insane nor does he struggle for war and world power nor does he enjoy killing others or puts them into camps to torment them. As I said, so far. I don't know what we are going to see in season three... hopefully he is not portayed as a monster in the upcoming season(s).
But accordig what we have seen in the first two seasons, he is trying to get rid of what he thinks is the biggest threat to mankind. I suppose, most of all because of Ingraine's death but also due to the corruption of magic. And not all of the sorcerers who tried to kill him or who attacked Camelot did that because of his actions.
I'm not justifying what he does. Who could ever justify the killing of innocent people? But I don't see Uther as an evil person either.
Hitler was actually an enemy of the nation, of people, Germans as well as Jews and everyone else. He knowingly destroyed Germany, the land he pretended to love (he was Austrian, actually) by starting the war and by recruiting more and more men and teens to the front although it made no sense anymore and the war was already lost. And so did his fellow men. There was not even a glimmer of protecting anyone, on the contrary. People were just "things" he could use for whatever he wanted to achieve.
Uther, on the other hand, wants peace and to protect Camelot and the ones he is close to. I hear that in season three he sends many men out who get killed in the search for Morgana. Let's wait and see how far this goes and what we get to know about his past.
But I still think that he doesn't want to destroy Camelot just to serve his own purposes.
And I really hope it stays that way...
