| 2.09 "Lady of the Lake" | Merlin sees Freya locked up in a cage and realizes she must have magic. He saves her. Merlin visits Freya and tries to impress her by making a strawberry using magic. Instead he creates a rose, which he gives to her. After narrowly escaping capture by the guards, Freya is terrified and Merlin swears to protect her. They share their first kiss. Merlin tells Freya he wants to run away with her, and although Freya wants to be with him, she runs away when he leaves to avoid harming him. Merlin learns that Freya is a Bastet, cursed to kill every midnight. Arthur stabs Freya in her Bastet form, mortally wounding her. Merlin follows the Bastet and discovers Freya in her human form, dying. He takes her to a lake outside of the city, to let her die in a beautiful place. She tells him that he made her feel loved, and that she would return one day to repay him for his kindness, before dying. Merlin sends her body into the lake in a small boat and, crying, sets it alight. |

In the T.A. Barron books Freya played a big part and (SPOILER) she dies then too! (last book?) They ARE a couple and you SHOULD check out the books. They're called like the seven lost years of merlin or something :D
