MORGANA'S STORY

After the death of her father during her childhood, Morgana was taken in by Uther and raised as Arthur's sister (though there was a brief flirtation during season one). She was commonly known by the people of Camelot as the King's Ward and she used this status to get everything she wanted.

Morgana feels very strongly about magic, but not the way Uther does. She thinks persecuting a person who has magic is a harsh punishment, and when Uther sentences a particularly attaching young Druid boy, Mordred, to his death, she proclaims that she will for now on be his enemy.

It was not until Morgana was older that she learned that she possesses magic. Even when she began to experience seemingly prophetic nightmares, she tried to deny their magical quality, knowing that fate awaited her if it became known he had magic. It wasn't until she began displaying physical abilities as well (setting her room on fire and smashing a vase with her mind during season 2's "The Nightmare Begins") that she came to accept her gift. Although she may be powerful, her magic is less defined because she has little training with her powers and does not know of their true extent.

Just recently, (this secret was discovered in Episode 5, The Crystal Cave) while Morgana was semi-unconscious from falling down the stairs, she overhears Uther telling Gaius that she is Uther's Daughter and that Arthur is her half-brother. She is also half-sister of Morgause through their mother, Vivienne.

In episode 12 of season 3, Morgana and Morgause [with the help of Cenred's immortal army] take over Camelot, capture the citadel, imprison the king, and Morgana is newly crowned as Queen of Camelot. Her victory does not last long, however as she is in turn overthrown by Merlin, Arthur and his Knights. She subsequently flees from Camelot, taking the injured Morgause with her.

In Season 4, we see Morgana as a powerful force to be reckoned with. She has completely made up her mind to become the ruler of Camelot any way she can.

Merlin - Merlin TV Show MORGANA'S RELATIONSHIPS

Merlin Name: Merlin
Occupation: Arthur's servant
Relationship: Morgana knows Merlin tried to poison her (at the end of Season 2) and holds a grudge against him. In Season 3, she attempts to kill him for revenge. She and Merlin are now enemies.
character template - Merlin TV Show

Gaius Name: Gaius
Occupation: Court physician
Relationship: Gaius is a father figure in her life and helps her with her so called 'nightmares' by prescribing sleeping draughts. He is the only person Morgana trusts in Season 1 and 2. In Season 3, she is his enemy.
character template - Merlin TV Show

Uther Name: Uther Pendragon
Occupation: Deceased King of Camelot
Relationship: He is her true father. They don't get along especially when it comes to magic. Morgana is terrified as to what Uther would do to her if he should find out about her magic. As of the Witch's Quickening, the relationship deteriorated and Morgana said that she disowned Uther. She has willing sided with Morgause against Uther and has attempted to kill the King herself. After Morgana had usurped the throne and imprisoned Uther, they became formal enemies.
character template - Merlin TV Show

Gwen Name: Gwen
Occupation: Queen of Camelot
Relationship: Although technically Gwen is Morgana's maid, they are more like best friends than master and servant. Gwen still cares for Morgana as she confides her concern in Gaius in Episode 13. Morgana and Gwen are no longer real friends as of series 3, and Morgana has vowed to kill Gwen rather than see her become Queen in place of Morgana.
character template - Merlin TV Show

Arthur Name: Arthur
Occupation: King of Camelot
Relationship: Arthur and Morgana are half brother and sister. Morgana knows this - Arthur does not. They share a complex relationship which includes caring for each other (in a sibling-like way?) and trading insults, and internal conflict of deciding if she wants to kill Arthur or not. As of the end of series 3, Arthur knows about Morgana's magic and is extremely angry with her.

The Great Dragon Name: The Great Dragon
Occupation: Roaming the forests
Relationship: At the end of 'Le Morte d'Arthur', the Dragon is seen thrashing and bellowing - immediately after this, Morgana awakes from one of her nightmares. So far, Morgana is oblivious to the existence of the Great Dragon.

  • (To Arthur) "Perhaps the boy is hiding in your chambers. It's usually such a mess, you'd never know."

rachel12199 What Could Possibly Happen to Morgana in Series 5? 6 Wednesday, 3:49 AM EST by AnotherDon
Thread started: Monday, 5:22 PM EST  Watch
Well, I think that in the next and possibly final series of Merlin, Morgana will redeem herself like in the legends.

Here's a bit of imformation as to why I think this:
In S1 The Beginning of the End - Uther knows Morgana commited treason but he lets her off with only a threat.
In S2 The Witch's Quickening - Uther knows Morgana helped Alvarr escape which is again treason but he lets her off with another warning.
In S3 The Coming of Arthur - Once it is out that Morgana is a traitor and she tried to take the throne, Uther or Arthur don't search for her because they still love her.
In S4 even after everything she's done, Arthur doesn't search for Morgana.
In S4 The Sword in the Stone - Arthur puts his sword away during the confrontation and again doesn't go and hunt her down.

I believe that if Morgana did apologize and try to right her wrongs, Arthur wouldn't have her executed. Gwen would forgive her. Merlin would possibly in time. Arthur would understand her reasons for treason.

What are your thoughts on what could happen with morgana in Series 5?

One more thing that is nothing really to do with this thread since Uther is already dead, but have you ever noticed that he only ever puts women in chains in the dungeons.

Gwen is chained when accused of creating the plague but when Gaius confesses or Merlin is suspected, they are not.
When Morgana just challenges Uther for killing Tom, he puts her in the dungeons with chains. She's a lady and not used to it, she didn't really do more than usual and yet he puts her in chains. If anything, I would've thought he would've chained her when she helped Mordred or Alvarr later on.
When Arthur rides out to get the flower for Merlin when he is poisoned after Uther warned him not to, he is put in the dungeons but not in chains.
Thoughts on this as well?

Hope you reply

I think it was really sweet how Merlin and Morgana used to get on especially in "The Moment of Truth" when she offered to help him out also in "The Beginning of the End" whilst both of them worked together to save Mordred from execution.
It was sad to see that relationship ruined!!
