John Hurt playing the voice of the dragon is just terriffic. And what do they have to gain from her marriage to Arthur – the heir to the throne of Camelot? Can Merlin get to the bottom of this mystery before Arthur makes the biggest mistake of his life?

Starring: Colin Morgan (Merlin), Angel Coulby (Gwen), Bradley James (Arthur Pendragon), Katie McGrath (Evil Morgana), Anthony Head (Uther Pendragon), Richard Wilson (Gaius), John Hurt (Voice of the Great Dragon)

Trivia: Turns out the fan who met Georgia King on location got her character's name wrong because it's Elena not Elaine.

• Season 2 speculations!
"Nice speculation, this is actually quite logical and I could see this coming into being! I kinda want to see the Great Dragon free just so he could get out of the series. He isn't actually //that// helpful, I mean he helps sometimes but usually just tries to manipulate people. And he insulted Gaius, which is plain not cool!"
Thanks! And the Great Dragon can cause potential conflict and depth, and he does guide Merlin somewhat, so I think they'll keep him around. Plus, he's voiced by John Hurt, which to get rid of a well-known actor like that early on is a no-no.

• Main Character Leaving Speculation
Sure, everyone wants to get rid of the old guy (just joking).

Wow, there are some really interesting insights in this thread with wonderful ideas for how the show could continue. Of course, being on this site and following the show, all the characters begin to take on a very personal role and we tend to hate seeing anyone leave - even Morgana who is necessary in the telling of the story.

It will be interesting to see how the writers keep to the integrity of the original story and if they'll stray or not. If they try to preserve their story to the original, then Morgana outlives Uther and continues to become Merlin's (and Arthur's) arch rival.

I suspect those speculations expressing Gaius to be leaving the show are probably the most correct. Merlin needs to grow and become his own man. But that's not to say there won't be additional characters introduced that won't influence him. After all there's still a dragon at Merlin's beck-and-call (so to speak).

I think I also agree with those that think Morgana (whom I adore, but realize has to play the role to make the story) will leave and only make the occasional appearances. After all, it's rather too convenient to be living in the same castle as those whom you would become enemies to. I like the idea of her becoming Queen as it does really lend itself to a series of good stories as Arther and Merlin try to regain the thrown. However, this is not part of the original story so we need to see the role the writers see for themselves.

Really great conversation everyone - intelligent and well thought ideas. Thanks for the great read.

• WRITE A REVIEW OF EPISODE 401: THE DARKEST HOUR (Part 1) I'd heard so much about the darker edge and the larger scope but even that didn't fully prepare me for the look and feel of the first episode. I thought it was all excellent.

I listened to John Hurt's opening with baited breath .... was he going to say it ....? "Rests on the shoulder of a young MAN" Thank you, it's about time! And new opening credit sequence; again, it's about time!

Love fully evil Morgana - definately better than any of her previous versions IMO.

Absolutely loved the bustling Camelot scene and got very excited when Merlin went into the kitchens but mostly for selfish reasons because I've written about that room in fanfiction and the head cook who was my Cookie from 'King Arthur's Ward' So nice of the writers to include her for me!!

Lancelot has always been my least favourite character, not because of the gorgeous Santiago, or the triagle but because I find that the noble types don't do much for me, but I love his relationship with Merlin here - knowing and even encouraging his use of magic. Yes, I think we can see where he's heading next episode and I think that will continue to make him very interesting to watch.

Lovely Merthur banter throughout - despite being a little forced because of how genuinely scared and distracted both were. Arthur's taking Merlin more seriously now. Giving him more responsibility and openly smiling as he insults him, acknowledging that he doesn't mean it. Merlin writing his speech? Slowly he's more advisor than servant and I hope that continues to develop through out this series.

Merlin's bedroom gets smarter every year too, have you noticed? He definitely has a slightly bigger and more comfy looking bed. I marvelled how someone of his height could even manage to sleep on that last one.

• Uther: Big Baddie or Loving Father? This seems to come up in a lot of baddie discussion threads so I wondered what people really thought of Uther Pendragon. Is he just a loving father and a good king in difficult times? Or is he a mad tyrant who persecutes his own people?

Merlin is

an exciting fantasy series set in the mythic city of Camelot, but inspired by 21st Century storytelling.

Before Merlin and Arthur became legends, they were ambitious young men looking for adventure,

hoping to live up to their families' expectations, discovering love and finding their own true destiny,

making mistakes along the way. The drama brings together a cast of acclaimed British actors: Richard

Wilson as Gaius; Anthony Head as King Uther; Pendragon. Colin Morgan is the young wizard Merlin,

Bradley James is the arrogant but brave Prince Arthur, rising star Angel Coulby is Guinevere and

newcomer Katie McGrath is Morgana. John Hurt is the Voice of the Great Dragon. Enigmatic and

powerful, he alone knows Merlin's true destiny.
That's great news to know, though [url=http://www.mycollects.com/products/Merlin-Season-1-DVD

-Boxset-DVDS-1561.html]Merlin sucks that the US is only on the first season. I'll find a way to
