Merlin's powers or Arthur's fighting skills and status?
Jun 11 2009, 3:03 PM EDT | Post edited: Jun 11 2009, 3:03 PM EDT
Which would you rather have Merlin's magickal powers or Arthur's status as a prince and his swordfighting skills? I personally would have Merlin's powers as you can learn fighting but magick is harder to learn...plus it's a more rare skill. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I'm going to say magic because I took some fencing classes in college. Not very skilled but still I could get better if I ever felt like practicing. Too lazy. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I would take magic as well. ^.^ As they say, the brain is mightier than brawn. Plus, you can be all secretive like Merlin is. :) That would be cool! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I'd take the magical powers. Even though knowing how to swordfight would be pretty awesome, I am generally awful at sports, and having magic would not require the same sort of practicing as fencing. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Magic without question.

Although if I had Merlin's kind of power, I would definitely be going in a different direction with my magic.

Gathering like-minded wizards and witches, and forcibly removing Uther.

Although others may feel differently and think me odd for my choice it is Arthur's status as Prince and his swordfighting skills that I choose. I am and shall always remain a soldier but of course that is not to say that a soldier may have only brawn. Let us not forget that every army must have a general and every great general must know the strengths and weaknesses of his own army and people as well those of his enemies. Magic may sometimes be the easiest solution but it is not always the best. For does not Merlin need Arthur as much as Arthur need Merlin? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

No, not really.

Merlin is always getting Arthur out of trouble.

The opposite was true only once and it was for Arthur that Merlin put himself in that danger.

First of all Arthur has helped Merlin twice: once when he got poisoned and the other time before that when he was trying to save Gwen. Maybe you need to learn to look more closely because I'm seeing something that you're not. What I see is that Merlin uses his magic to help Arthur, yes, but he needs Arthur to do the fighting. Magic is great but it's useless at close range when something is trying to attack you. More than that, as we've already seen, Merlin's word means nothing to the higher class. He himself means nothing to them. Yet they will listen to Arthur and Arthur is the only one that will be able to change the laws. Merlin might be intelligent in some things but he has no real understanding of the nobility and the laws and traditions that they must abide by. Take Valiant for example. Merlin could not understand the things that Arthur was forced to do because of his status. He could not understand why he was so willing to fight when death was certain. Look to their future and try to see what these things mean. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Magic rulez!

you cares about fighting when you can just make your enemy's sword disappear or have them turned it to a tree with a few words

Magic. They're so many things you can do with magic, and a broad range of magical abilities and arts. Everything from necromancy to healing. And if you look at the darker side of what Merlin could do, he could always pull Arthur's strings from behind the scenes and rule himself in the shadows in the future -if he really wanted. Close range, magic isn't limited. It's what you're able to do (level of ability) or what you think can be done at that moment. Like in Moment of Truth, where Merlin uses magic to heat up the sword and make it useless to his opponent.

Arthur does get into most of the trouble, with Merlin bailing him out. After Merlin was poisoned, which was for Arthur anyway, he still had to help Arthur out by the orb of light to guide Arthur's way. And helping Merlin out when he was trying to save Gwen was actually kind of an...accident. Arthur wasn't purposely trying to help Merlin, just thought his manservant was being ridiculous and in love. That said, I like magic and all but it would be nice to be like a General and make great, inspiring speeches and all (is influenced by darn movies like Gladiator, Troy, 300, etc....). Very inspiring and makes me cry....

I'd totally take magic. It would be awesome to be able to turn into animals... heck, during a fight you could just turn into a dragon and roast your opponent! Sounds fun to me! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Tough Question... umm, I like the whole Arthur thing, but Merlin's magic also rules... as long as no one found out, coz otherwise the wole being-killed-by-Uther thing isn't on my favourites list. lol! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Omigod, could you imagine a Merlin/Arthur cross? That'd be pretty awesome... but then again, said person would dominate the entire world. Which wouldn't be bad, as long as they weren't a tyrant. Do you find this valuable?
